with Celine Fraefel
(ADV. CERTIFIED JIVAMUKTI YOGA TEACHER/DAYA YOGA BERN DIRECTOR)
MARCH 23.-24. 2013
Many beginning Yoga practitioners experience tightness in their hips. In the West this phenomenon is even more prevalent because people sit in chairs most of the day. The only movement in the hip joint is forwards and backwards as we sit, walk, or run, but it hardly ever moves sideways or rotates outward or inward. Yoga offers a variety of Asanas (postures) that gradually help us regain the freedom in our hips. This will not only allow us to gradually reduce tension in the physical body, but will also help us to release energetic and emotional blockages. For the Yogi, the body does not only consist of its physical form, but actually consists of three bodies: the physical, subtle and causal body. Like an onion, these are composed of five different layers: the food or physical layer, energetic layer, emotional or mind layer, intellectual or wisdom layer and bliss layer. They are all related and interact with each other. By gaining more flexibility in the body through asanas our breath flows more deeply and naturally which will cause the energy to move more freely and expand into unknown spaces. This process will set free emotions that have been stored in our hearts and have been translated into our bodies (e.g. in the form of tight hips). By focusing on what is happening in our bodies and our mind we get to know ourselves better and gain more knowledge of who we really are –pure joy and love!
The intention of this workshop is to give practitioners a better understanding of what is happening in their hips while practicing asana and to give them tools to mindfully expand the freedom in that area of the body – starting with the physical structure and gradually moving to the more subtle effects of the practice.
All levels of practicioners are welcome.
