Dharma Vinyasa Series: Shiva Namaskar Shiva Namaskar Vinyasa Series created by Sri Dharma Mittra is a stairway to bliss that reintegrates the continuous flow of prana (Cosmic Energy) through the spinal column emanating deep into all areas of the physical, metabolic, intuitive and bliss bodies. The Divine active ingredients include carefully selected Vinyasa sequences (asanas), breathings (pranayamas), purifications/cleansings (kriyas), meditation (dhyana) and most importantly Yama (ethical observances) which allow one to rapidly transform the deleterious patterns of the mind and body and restore a radiant state of health. The progression flows in a uniquely challenging yet meditative manner directing you toward the true goal of Yoga – Self Realization.
It was here that intuition led him to Dr. Narasimha a yogacharya and ayurvedic physician who accepted TJ as his student and he was initiated into Hatha-Raja Yoga. During an intense seven-year sadhana, TJ simultaneously undertook his doctoral studies in medicine at Brown University in the US and alternative medicine at Bastyr University. He took on an advisory role at Brown working on the curriculum and design programs in integrative healing for physicians in training. At a pivotal crossroads after studies in naturopathy and nutrition as he was deciding how to shape the nature of his healing path, another series of deep inner callings led him to NYC – the seemingly unlikeliest of incubators for spiritual aspiration. Yet within this maelstrom of lila, he discovered his beloved Guru -Sri Dharma Mittra –the calm center of Samadhi within the chaos of an ever-changing periphery. It was here with Sri Dharma that TJ would discover his own dharma or highest calling to continue to share the divine seeds of Yoga science with All and letting the light of self knowledge shine. TJ carries on the tradition of lineage of the masters in a way uniquely forged by his unique blend of experiences.
TJ now lives the life of a Yogi while maintaining balance in the ordinary world. He leads workshops, retreats and the Living Yoga Immersion worldwide. He embodies the qualities imparted from Sri Dharma: compassion, humility, steadfastness and of course, laughter. Centering: Practice for the Eternal Now:Beyond all fluctuations, beyond all change there is an eternal present. Yoga is a mean literally a yoke, for joining with this omnipresent thread flowing through the entire universe. As we work to unite energy and consciousness the path to Union becomes a natural flow and we realize that we are never truly separate from IT. This dynamic session blends asana, pranayama, satsang (discourse) and guided meditation techniques to unlock the transcendental states of health and happiness equally present within us all.
Meditations in Movement: Inversions Sirsasana (headstand), and sarvangasana (shoulder stand) are known as the king and queen of Hatha Yoga. They are complete poses, offering harmonizing benefits to all systems of the body – especially the nervous system and endocrine system (which regulates hormones etc) and a direct path to third-eye consciousness . We will explore the roots of these postures and their variations as well as building the foundation to related inversions such as pincha mayurasana (forearm balance) and vrkshasana (handstand). DIscover new ‘tricks’ to fly to newfound heights as well as discover your center through the play of balance and breath. TJ will also introduce powerful meditations that can amplify these postures. What first appears unfamiliar, in this case being upside down, often opens the largest windows to discovery. All is within.
Maha Sadhana – The Complete Practice (3hrs) : Adapted from Sri Dharma Mittra‘s signature practice, Maha Sadhana is the complete living practice as transmitted by one of the great Yoga masters of the 20th/21st centuries. A complete blueprint to radiant health and well being, this session begins with a discourse conveying the ancient teachings into our modern lives. It continues with the challenging Shiva Namaskar practice, including deep relaxation and special meditation practice.
